ALROSA CEO expects compensation for Mir mine flood in Apr–May

DAVOS, Jan 25 (PRIME) -- Russian uncut diamond mining giant ALROSA expects insurance compensations for last year’s flood at the Mir mine to start in April–May, CEO Sergei Ivanov told PRIME on Thursday.

“There are many documents to sign, we need to have many verifications that equipment was destroyed, that workings were destroyed, that this cannot be restored, and that horizontal tunnels were flooded. We have collected the necessary documents, and Sogaz is now holding negotiations with a reinsurer, as far as we know,” Ivanov said.

“Judging by our practice … I think it will take three to four months. We see no problems in this.”

Sogaz insured the equipment with a limit of 10 billion rubles.

“The incident happened on August 4, so it is likely to take us about six or eight months after the incident. This is rather quick for compensations after incidents of that scale. I think we will start receiving compensations some time in April or May,” Ivanov said.
